The Sacrament of Matrimony is a sacred covenant established between a man and a woman, designed to be a lifelong partnership aimed at the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children. This covenant, when entered into by baptized individuals, is elevated to the dignity of a sacrament by Christ, affirming its profound spiritual significance.

Biblical Foundations

The foundation of marriage is deeply rooted in Sacred Scripture, beginning with the creation of humanity in God’s image and culminating in the vision of the “wedding feast of the Lamb.” Throughout the Bible, marriage is depicted as a divine mystery, reflecting God’s love and intentions for humanity. It illustrates the journey of salvation history, acknowledging both the challenges posed by sin and the renewal offered through Christ and His Church.

Preparation for Marriage

Engaged couples are encouraged to prepare adequately for their marriage. This preparation is not merely about planning external elements such as flowers or receptions but involves a deep spiritual reflection on the sanctity and beauty of the sacrament. Couples should prioritize their spiritual readiness by participating in confession prior to their wedding.
